Projects

North Sea Faring (NSF)

Many of the projects I have worked on over the past two years have been live projects, based around the North Sea. During these projects I have met with clients to discuss the brief and worked towards achieving the client’s aims.

A Reflection of Oostende, Belgium, NSF (live) - May 2007

-this project explores the concept of a Floating City to relieve pressure along the coast, caused by rising sea levels and increasing population.

Colchester Charette, NSF (live) – Mar 2007

creating a public space for mixed use in an ex-industrial area within a regeneration programme.

Dare to Bare, Copenhagen, Denmark – Jan 2007

Dare is a challenge to improve an existing celebrated, maritime landscape.

Maritime Quarter, Dundee, NSF (live) – May 2006

The city of Dundee is currently disconnected with the river. By introducing a maritime quarter the city can be reunited with its waterfront and maritime heritage.

Colchester, River Colne Character Assessment – Jan 2006

This was a group project to carry out a character assessment of the River Colne .

Interests

I have been a member of SLIC (Student Landscape Institute Council) since Sept 2006. The role of the council is to facilitate communication between students and practicing members of the Landscape Institute and between students from different universities across the country.

One of my roles within the council is maintaining the SLIC website and keeping students updated on events and relevant current affairs.

I am a member of LASE (Landscape Architecture South East) and through this I have been working with LAN (Landscape Arts Network) to organise an event that will enable students and professionals from different, design based vocations to meet and share their knowledge and experience under the theme of creative thinking.

This year I have been working with the LSEA (London Schools Environment Award) scheme. This involves volunteering at a primary school in London in order to help teach the pupils about the environment and the importance of green space in the city.

Employment History

Squires Garden Centre, Woking, March 2006 – June 2006, Plant Area

This position provided me with extensive plant knowledge and an awareness of plant management. During this time I worked on the Squires display stand at Chelsea Flower Show 2006.

Lloyds No.1 Bar, Guildford – July 2005 – September 2005, Bar Associate.

Robert Dyas, Guildford – February 2003 – December 2004, Sales Assistant.

Additional Information

Sailing and racing yachts and dinghies has been an interest of mine since a young age. I enjoy the challenge and excitement of sailing in different weather conditions and navigating new waters. Through this I have achieved various certificates, including RYA (Royal Yachting Association) Day Skipper and an RYA VHF/DSC marine radio licence.

In 2003 I took part in an expedition to Namibia. This trip enabled me to experience a new culture and environment and face new challenges, including a five day trek across a National Park. During the expedition I had the opportunity to spend time with two local guides who were able to share their experience and knowledge of the country with me, making the trip especially memorable. I also volunteered in Windhoek with CLaSH (a charity working in support of children with hearing disabilities) at a primary school. I was involved in painting the outside of the school buildings and redesigning the playground, helping to create a much livelier and entertaining atmosphere for the children to learn in.
